Shibboleth support in my application

Hi,

I have an already existing application which as of now supports login using
ldap and/or using our own database to store user credentials. One of the
client is using shibboleth and has asked us to enable sso capability using
saml. I went through the documentation and found there  are many components
that are there and am kind of lost of where to start and need help from the
mailing group.
I would like to know what of following I need to install in my webapp: IDP?
SP? APACHE server?
And what should i request my client to provide me - only their current
shibboleth configuration? 
What will I need to change in my code to authenticate using shibboleth? I
currently have a form with user id and password.
Any pointers on how I start and what all I install will be really helpful.
