I'm pretty certain no changes of this kind are scheduled for 2.x
(which is basically in maintenance mode now).
I couldn't quickly find something in the space for the development of
the upcoming 3.x IdP https://wiki.shibboleth.net/confluence/display/IDP30/
but whatever is (or isn't) part of IdP v3 this is still many many
months away.
