Thanks, Kevin. Do you happen to have a pointer to Scott's method? Somewhat unsurprisingly, I get an awful lot of hits with any search criteria involving "Scott Cantor" and "Error". :-)

You can trap various Errors at the IdP and make them more presentable to the end user. But, you can not remove the ability for some one to hit the back button and arrive at your, more useful or not, error page.

You can dig through the archives here for different methods that users have come up with..

FWIW I think I like Scott's error page trapping and rendering method best.
