PrincipalName as NameID?

Hi
Since this is a simple test, I dont care about the transientId attribute in
attribute-resolver.xml (For now, just until I get things working).
Also what I want is want whatever the PrincipalName attributeDefinition
type returns, as my NameID.
I guess I missunderstood the whole transient and persistentID.
I don't think my SP is request any specific NameID though I will confirm
that.
If I understand correctly from the documentation, nameID definitions on the
SP or IDP metadata are just for info and don't really make a difference is
that correct?
So basically what you guys are saying is that other than the use of
unspecified instead of transient or persistent, what I am doing is correct?
Lastly, if one should not use unspecified then how does one get an
unspecified NameID like in the google example from the wiki, or is that
example just plain wrong?
