Then you aren't using that metadata, or it wouldn't be.

Then you're having it constantly check remotely for an updated copy and
it's not getting anything back, probably timing out or something. There
would be ample log evidence of that.

It wouldn't. Once it's invalid, if you have no source to update it, it
would break.
