That has nothing to do with logging, Kevin just mentioned that logback
happens to support a DB back-end.

Your best bet is to investigate the logback software's capabilities, and
extension features. After reviewing their documentation, their list would
be the place to ask any questions. Do not mention Shibboleth, SAML, or
anything else. They won't care. Extending logback for the IdP is no
different than extending it for any other purpose, we're just a logback
application like any other.
