Shibboleth Sp generated certificate

HI,
Im using the Shibboleth Sp generated certificate and shared it with my IDP.
This certificate was *auto generated* during the installation of shibboleth
with the msi file.I'm aware its a self signed certificate. Is this ready to
use, would i need to make any changes. The authentication process all works
fine. 
1. Just checking whether i need to make any modifications to the auto
generated one.
2. does this have any expiration ?
