Clustering the IDP using Terracotta?

The instructions on the installation wiki refer to Terracotta 3.2.1, but the current download version is 3.7.3 and no longer seems to have the Tomcat integration. I found a 2011 post on the terracotta forum highly recommending moving to "express mode".

Does anyone know of any security implications of using the old version?
Any suggestions?
