Did you try Scott's suggestion above? Changing the server software (to
match what new releases do out of the box) is a lot easier then
telling users to change their behaviour.

The archive has the details but AFAIR the problem is that MS Office
spins up a somewhat "restricted" instance of MS Internet Explorer from
links inside MS Office documents. But that browser doesn't handle
redirects or cookies fully (or at all) and it either breaks there or
when a full instance of MS Internet Explorer is launched to handle the
(rest of) the request.
Fixing the server alwas trumps telling users /anything/, basically.
