Interesting. Now that you mention it, I do recall seeing Sun code that was pure Java, but also a different (perhaps [much] older?) implementation linked to native libraries (JNI).

My statement about 'most' was based on an informal sampling some time ago from a Google search--that could also be little more an artifact of people copying code with slight modifications to different places.

I might also be confusing krb5client with kadm5 (what I was working on at the time).
