question regarding serial number in SP metadata

I just found a post where Scott responded to a question about shib sp and
adfs idp.

In this you mention "Add ADFS to the protocol list in the SSO element", but
it also mentions "if the relevant extension is loaded".  It directs you to
<ProtocolProvider> in that sentence but that link just shows you the same
page you are on so I don't see how to load the extension.  I tried to add
"ADFS" after SAML2 SAML1, and restarted shib but it failed.  I believe the
IDP is using adfs v2.

I'm using SP v2.4.3 and would like to see if the reason my communication
with and ADFS IDP is failing is the lack of that entry and extension.  

Any help would be appreciated.
