Ok, I don't know why I didn't see this before.
This is in the native.log:
2013-04-16 08:36:16 DEBUG Shibboleth.Apache [11777] shib_check_user: mapped
https://<myserver>.com/<path1> to default
where <path1> is the resource I want to return to after authentication
Is this where the problem is?

/Every/ request passing though will be recorded in the native log on DEBUG.
So what /do/ you have in your native log?

No. The only role the IdP has here is to send back the relaystate verbatim
to the SP.
