I don't see any sign of metadata being loaded in that log. Notwithstanding
your point about the backing file, just saying.

I know it's a metadata issue, but I have no idea what.

You probably need to turn up logging, and check for explicit reference to
it loading the metadata. And stop using it remotely. Copy it into a file,
and load it locally.
