ERROR XMLTooling.ParserPool

Hi,
I'm running a Shibboleth Service Provider using the 2.4.3 packages from
Debian Squeeze plus the FastCGI responder and authorizer.
My app is authenticating against the UK Federation and things seem to
mostly work most of the time.
I've been testing with an account at a UK Institution and another
account at ProtectNetwork.
Login with both accounts works. However, if I log in with one account,
log out (by deleting the shib cookie from the app domain) and then log
in with the other account, most of the time (but not quite always) I get
the following error:
-----
2012-09-21 07:32:02 ERROR XMLTooling.ParserPool [2]: fatal error on line
1, column 1, message: invalid byte '' at position 1 of a 1-byte sequence
2012-09-21 07:32:02 ERROR Shibboleth.Listener [2]: error processing
incoming message: XML error(s) during parsing, check log for specifics
-----
The error occurs with the accounts in either order.
I have been unable to reproduce the issue by logging back in with the
account that I just logged out.
If I restart my webserver and refresh the page where the error occurred
then the login succeeds.
The only other reference I can find to a similar issue is this:
http://shibboleth.1660669.n2.nabble.com/on-incorrect-multi-byte-sequences-possibly-refers-to-bug-SSPCPP-195-td6737863.html
https://bugs.internet2.edu/jira/browse/SSPCPP-195
...Which seems to have been reported as fixed in 2010.
Can anyone offer any hints for how to debug this or where the problem
may lie?
Regards,
@ndy
