attribute synonyms?

If an SP asks for an attribute with a particular name (e.g., "SPusername") that has values identical to something I already have in attribute resolver (e.g., "UakUsername") is there a way to release the previously defined attribute with the new name the SP wants?  Of course the existing attribute name is used with a number of services so I don't want to merely re-name the attribute in the resolver - I need to use both names.  I could duplicate the resolver but in at least one case it's an iterative script so that seems extravagant.  Hence my query about synonyms.
