You need to get your SP working properly and verify that Java code on the
system sees whatever header you're using to drive this, or RemoteUser if
that's the case.

At that point, it's not a Shibboleth issue any longer and is something to
direct to the plugin's maintainers. That error usually means the SP isn't
getting the data from the IdP or populating it as expected by the plugin
config. If it *is*, then it's a plugin issue.
