Both SP and IdP include sample and example metadata and/or tools to
generate it to assist with initial deployment. The IdP generates an
initial file after installation in metadata/idp-metadata.xml and the SP
includes an example metadata file for an IdP, and generates its own
example metadata at /Shibboleth.sso/Metadata.

And then there are pages all over the wiki explaining metadata and trust
management.

Both IdP and SP documentation cover the metadata provider plugins they
support, and the example config files include samples.
