How to map subject email address to request header name?

Thanks for the pointer.  In the end I did this, and it works:-

    <Attribute name="urn:oasis:names:tc:SAML:1.1:nameid-format:emailAddress"
id="ShibAuthdUserEmail">
        <AttributeDecoder xsi:type="NameIDAttributeDecoder"
formatter="$Name" />
    </Attribute>

I'm not that this is exactly what you indicated, but I think it's very close
and is hopefully appropriate.
