scripted attribute definition: non-JavaScript/non-Rhino ?

The problem in the PHP case was a binding/type coercion issue.  I
haven't used either PHP or Python (I personally despise both
languages) so I'm not familiar with the way things work, in those
languages, when you cross the language boundaries.

I would have thought that Python would have been okay as Jython is a
pretty well developed and supported impl and so, I would have thought,
had really good support for cross the language boundary.  What you
might try is asking on the Jython list and see if they can point you
in the right direction.
