Hello Peter, all,

Thank you for that suggestion.  Have added it to the contributed section 
of the Shib wiki.... search for "IdP Load Tester" near the bottom of 
this page:

I can't offer any support for this little script utility, but FWIW I 
hope it is helpful to others.

You'll need to have the perl WWW::Mechanize module installed in order 
for it to work.  And, I advise you to check the README.txt file and read 
through the shell script and perl code (which you'll have to make small 
modifications to).  It is only 200-300 lines max so hopefully not 
difficult to modify to suit your needs.
