Could you file a RFE to get a logging config option added to the command
line to "pre-prime" the logging prior to full load? It shouldn't hurt
anyting to re-init it to the same config afterward, and that way at least
XML parse problems would get file logged.

Or it will turn out to be a nightmare, but I'll at least remember to try
it.
