iis sp installs 2 daemons?

Yea. I did remove another install first and didn't think to check services
to see if one was listed there still, so that's likely it.

Must be something I've fubared in my shibboleth2.xml file. Replaced with
the dist copy and I'm running again. It's also writing log files. So what
could I possibly screw up in the xml file to cause shibd to not even write
a log file?
