Scott,
Given that the Oracle Apache is 2.0; I assume that the Redhat 5 Shibboleth RPM would not work without recompilation since they have been built for Redhat Apache 2.2. Right?
People here are really trying to push for a way to avoid recompiling RPMs...

With an older version that was Apache 1.3.

Yes.

Often sysadmins mistakenly try and build everything from source instead of just using the RPMs for everything else. Other than that, I don't know of any special considerations.
