Certainly easier, but no replacement if you want to implement
something, is to grab an authentication request from your own
webbrowser during interaction with a correct SAML implementation
(possibly some public demo site like SWITCH's).
E.g. for Mozilla Firefox there's SAML Tracer by Olav Morken:

Either way, this list is for users of the Shibboleth software, which
it seems you're trying /not/ to use.
