Hello Peter,

Thank you for the response. I already noticed that the howto is marked as deprecated, but it is still more or less identical to the NativeSPLinuxSourceBuild documentation (with some extra steps).

The installation over yum fails: I have already installed another software (GDAL from the repository http://packages.eox.at/centos/x86_64/), which uses Xerxes in an older version. Adding the new Shibboleth repository and installing Shibboleth over Yum produces another error:

Error: Package: gdal-1.8.1-1.eox3.el6.x86_64 (@eox)
           Requires: libxerces-c-3.0.so()(64bit)
           Removing: xerces-c-3.0.1-20.el6.x86_64 (@base)
               libxerces-c-3.0.so()(64bit)
           Obsoleted By: libxerces-c-3_1-3.1.1-1.6.el6.x86_64 (home_Scott_Cantor)
               Not found

I figured that installing Shibboleth from soure is an adequate solution to avoid those dependency problems.

The first sentence on that page is this:

  This is depreciated, as Shibboleth 2.4.3 installs with no issues on
  RHEL 6 using yum.

So before even looking at the problems you ran into:

1. Why build at all? There are RPMs (and SRPMs) for CentOS.
