Custom Login handler

Hi:

Can anyone point me to a custom login handler? A simple example will
be great; I have to validate userName, password and then present
cutomise messaging, before forwarding to SP.

I read the good online documents - like everything in life, I am under
a time crunch, and reviewing a already working version will be a great
help.

I will post what I have when completed.
