Oracle data connector

Hi,
https://wiki.shibboleth.net/confluence/display/SHIB2/OracleDBDataConnector
states that
switching to a Container Manager connection seems to avoid losing
connections after an idle period
when using the Oracle thin driver.
On the other hand this would stop aacli from working, which is a very
useful tool!

Is there another known solution to the "idle period" problem using an
Application Managed connection?
