I'm fine with the RFE, I just don't know how simple it will be to pull off, the filtering is in that code but is certainly ignorant today of whether the backup file was used. I'm sure it's possible, just not trivial.</pre>

    It's the same in the IdP and Java OpenSAML.  There is not really any

    way I see off-hand to communicate to the signature filter not to

    run, except for a (nasty) ThreadLocal.<br>

    Maybe in general we need some sort of conditions that can be

    attached to the metadata filters.  But the problem is still how to

    communicate any meaningful state on which the filter can operate. 

    Short of ThreadLocal, there would have to be some MetadataFilter API

    changes I think.<br>
