It’s good to know that we’re at least not going backwards.

I think the place to go for that would be this issue tracker:

It looks like accessibility issues are labelled with "forgejo/accessibility”.

I’m sure they don’t have anyone working full-time on this, but they do seem to be open for improvement suggestions.
