The documentation is still pretty much OK (feel free to ask follow up questions here) and I would advise looking at one of the less
complex plugin projects for ideas on how to structure thing.   The java-plugin-storage-jdbc plugin is probably the one which comes
with the least amount of structural baggage.

Don't forget that you cannot derive your implementations from FirstPartyIdPPlugin.
