We have never set a goal of facilitating anybody else building it on Windows, so those are purely internal docs for Rod and myself that I asked him to put together so I could get things working when he changed the build.

Git, it's a separate project [1]. There are no zip files unless you mean the source archives, and those are essentially for Unix, not Windows (the zip is just built by default by make dist). There is no "source distribution" that stands alone for building on Windows. You literally can't build this without the cpp-msbuild pieces now, at least not in any way that would be tolerable.
