Sorry, slightly late to this party, also my head is very deeply somewhere else, so I'm probably missing something.

Why not just drill down and compare the "last refresh" with the "last update"?  If that isn't what you want you can certainly look
at the time and spot if things aren't happening.  The status jsp shows how to do this.

On the other hand we did extend the DataConnector base type to return a "lastFailed" date which might also be more what’s needed..
