How to run Tomcat on Windows ?

Do you have a recommendation/preference/suggestion regarding how to
run Tomcat on Windows ? (catalina.bat vs tomcat.exe)

I ask because I've been having a wee bit of trouble stopping Tomcat
when running catalina.bat as a Java Process. I guess an alternative is
to try the Tomcat executable (I think it's called tomcat.exe, it's
installed by the Tomcat Windows Service Installer) instead of
catalina.bat. [And if the executable is preferred over the bat, I'm
wondering if setenv.bat is still called, because that's how I was
setting idp.home. We might need to move idp.home to the IdP webapp
descriptor instead.]

I would imagine that most people run Tomcat on Windows as a service.
