It would help to understand a bit more about what your 'configuration' is, and what code changes you have made.  Also whether you are doing anything funky with the classpath.

I do not know this code and I know Brent will chime in when he gets in but from re-reading it this should "all just work" (and indeed does).  So you have done something to break the inheritance between org.opensaml.core.xml.config.XMLObjectProviderInitializer and org.opensaml.core.config.Initializer

What does the debugger say?  What is the type which is returned from the iterator?  Does it look like it implements Inititalizer?
