Of course that doesn't really work since the predicates aren't under my control, so you're right, that was a bit short sighted.

We *could*, I guess, if we come up with some kind of solution that doesn't radically change the design, just modify the "standard" predicates we have to support some kind of lookup strategy and document the issue for custom rules, given that the combination of that plus delegation isn't exactly common anyway.
