External authentication: MVC controller as alternative to servlet

I don't know. I think the answer is probably that they were either there so the testbed works, or they were there at the beginning when we inherited all this code and started working with it.

I went back in history, and the first version of the file was created by me out of extracting things that were in other files originally. I don't know right now what was in the original files.

In short, your question is exactly why I'm asking about the use of MVC going forward, to get this cleaned up.
