It's so much the same that really that's the question being asked in a different way. I doubt we bother changing the parent POM outside of a major upgrade if we weren't going to bump a dependency, and I seem to recall that Chad's approach in patches was to override the version in the actual patched module to avoid unlocking and bumping the parent.
