+1 to branching asap to support patch releases without blocking feature
development (in trunk). That approach has served us well in the CAS project.
I do think git dramatically facilitates branching w/r/t feature
development; not so much with overall project management. You have to make
a decision where active, feature development happens; presumably that's
trunk. (I sure hope so anyway.)
