Versions post 3.1.0 release ?

The question Marvin's been asking, which we really never have answered 
much in the past is when/how we decide to branch and start adding features 
to the trunk.

I wasn't ever involved much in the first few years of V2 development 
because I wasn't running it, and I was busy with the SP, so I was pretty 
deliberately heads down. I don't know how that planning for when we'd be 
doing features.

But right now, we have a road map of a couple of feature releases (or 
possibly one, depends on timeline) to do, and my inclination is that we 
branch sooner rather than later to preserve the ability to do patch 
releases from the branches.
