Thanks, Rod, for giving accessibility the attention it deserves but so often doesn't get.
One other suggestion: it's possible to make a combo/edit box that's aria friendly. This would, in fact, help you to avoid the two different forms. A user could either type in the box and get auto-complete from the list or simply scroll through the list.
If this interests you, we might have a sample script. It'd be a deviation from what you've had there for a long time with the two different forms, but it might greatly simplify things both for development and for the user.

I'll add these to the relevant JIRA case and spend some time looking at this. I hope to get some stuff done for the next release (1.1), failing that 1.2
