This is not really where I want to see the MetadataGenerator develop.  My
ultimate aim (v5 or so..) would be configuration introspection as per the
SP.  But I am not even sure yet how to make this happen we are talking a
long way out.

I'd also say that leaving it as an api was a mistake (like the taglib
library), but we can live with that.  

If it will help extensibilty I'd not be against it.  But before we start
1+ing, I’d like to take a step back and think about this in terms of
multiple non-SAML protocols and profiles.  So if you put in an RFE I'll
think about what this looks like (probably before agreeing to the
suggestions...)
