Same reason CAS is now part of the IdP and was a requested feature for a long time. It's just not a long term plus to be running two systems, and having completely different, disconnected configuration mechanisms isn't what most people want.

But nobody is suggesting just embedding two systems together either. We didn't just mash the IdP and the existing CAS server together either.
