FWIW, in the EDS I absolutely eschewed jquery (and all the other "useful"
libraries available to a js programmer).  The Java world's approach to code
security & signing makes me deeply uncomfortable, I prefer to not think
about the attack vectors one opens up once one ships jquery.

Undoubtedly, the trick being to find out what it's doing and  duplicate it.
I'm not sure what the licensing status of jquery is but we probably don't
want to read the code.

I'll bet it involved CSS, & I know Scott loves CSS almost as much as I do.
