Spring has assured me that this is not at all the EOL for Java 7 and everybody just pays Oracle for updates. [1]

(It was posted on April 1st, but I'm 99% sure it wasn't meant as a joke.)

Anyway, this mostly comes down to the whole scripting mess, so I think we need a review of where all that stands and making sure our documentation is in order.
