Round about the time we decided to move forward to 3.0.

As you say yourself, there are multiple references to that on the "which version" page.

They may be a little inconsistent, but the mere absence of an explicit mention on the download page of something which is called out so clearly and so many times elsewhere does not -- to me -- give me any confidence that 8.0.8 is ready for prime time.

Even if it became a production release *today*, I'd say we'd still be pushing way too hard if we told people that was the minimum version we supported.
