I'm 90% sure we added a filter function in 2.4 that does a simple check
against EntityAttributes. I was positive we did that to incorporate a
custom extension I or somebody else did to implement category-based
attribute release. Maybe we just didn't get it ported to V3 yet.

Yes, trimming is fine to distinguish the concepts.
