My presumption is that this has to be what V2 is doing with multiple files
now, but that's the assumption to check.

We can discuss. I don't think multiple files is/was common, though I know
some are doing it. It probably wouldn't be impossible to make a change to
how that has to be done, but my preference is to avoid that if we can.
