I was thinking that there may have been a deliberate choice for an
annotation with runtime binding to support novel use cases, though I
can't imagine anything terribly useful off the top of my head. If
there were an easy way to get at the event ID, it might provide a nice
alternative to static fields for event IDs. I made a weak attempt at
that but quickly gave up.
