Any documents for how to build the shib idp from the source code and how to run and debug the idp?

Thanks for the information. It does answer a lot of my question, while
regarding the following one:

What I meant is to be able to step into the code, see the call stack, not
only looking at logs. I know logs is one way, but if I could really debug
the code it would be much more helpful and efficient. Can you tell me how
do you usually debug the code?
