State Management and Clustering (IdP)

Hello,

In October 2011 Chad started an email thread entitled
"State Management and Clustering" in the context of IdPv3.
That email is available at

Is it a fair statement that at this time the set of decisions
and results detailed in that email still stand and we can
generally consider that IdPv3 will support "out of the box"

1) many sites will be able to run the IdP in such a way that
all relevant state is kept on the client side 

and

2) those sites needing "back-channel" support will be able to
leverage a clustering solution based on Infinispan that is
integrated into the IdP

?

I understand that the events of the past year and Chad's
departure may make a response difficult--I am not looking for
a commitment to any specific functionality and am more
interested in the general arc of the project in regards to
state management.
